What Is Select Missing Word?
You hear a recording where the last word or phrase is replaced by a beep. You must select the option that logically and linguistically completes the sentence. There is one correct answer from 4–6 options.
Scoring
Contributes to Listening only. 1 point for correct; 0 for incorrect. No penalty.
Strategy
- Listen to the whole recording — the earlier content builds the context for the final word/phrase.
- The missing word must complete the sentence logically (meaning) and grammatically (part of speech, tense).
- Predict the word type before the beep: is the sentence heading toward a conclusion, an example, a contrast?
- Eliminate options that contradict the topic or don’t fit the grammar.
